About Paula Robertson
Building upon a long standing interest in art, I vowed to pursue it in earnest when I retired from teaching in 1995 in Northern Maine. At that time, my painting references were of our agricultural community and its people in their work environment. The memories generated by the sounds and smells of crisp, fall mornings in the potato fields of rural Maine resulted in a series of watercolor paintings. Always inspired by a community, its people and its natural surroundings, my relocation to Pawleys Island has not changed my focus, simply the subject matter. My camera serves as a traveling companion while I drive around the Low Country. I realize how fortunate I am to have such a colorful locale from which to draw for my paintings. Since my move to Pawleys Island I studied on a regular basis with Bruce Chandler. I also participated in workshops presented by Mary Whyte, Margaret Hoybach, Mark Mehaffey, Lynda English, Carolyn Gawarecki and in several other local art seminars. During a vacation in Saignon, France, I had the opportunity to study with Andrew Petrov. During my growth as an artist, I journey from realism to abstract and from watercolor to oils to acrylic. The challenges of moving from one medium to the other and interpreting an image in various styles keeps me motivated. Watercolor tends to bring out the realist in me while the other mediums allow me to be freer and looser in my renditions with emphasis on strong, vibrant colors. Several of my award winning pieces can be viewed at http://Island Art Gallery.com or I can be contacted at paulamrobertsonz89@gmail.com Thanks for your viewing interest. Paula Robertson .
